In order to travel to El Continento these days it pays to have an EHIC, European Health Insurance Card. This is the replacement for the old E111. They are incredibly easy to get and cost nothing, furthermore several insurers will not pay out if you don't have one.
If you do not have one please get one from this website:
https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do
All you need is either your NHS number or National Insurance number.
In order to make this front row proof in its simplicity I have procured a load of paper application forms as well for non-internetters to fill in.
